Discovering Your Motivation to Work from Home

Who wouldn’t want to work from home? What are the disadvantages? Okay…yes there are a few. Even though you may have an idea as to why you are looking to work from home it is still important to take the time to flush this out thoroughly.

As Napoleon Hill would say, “a burning desire to succeed” is crucial to your success.

One motivational direction is being drawn or motivated towards a positive goal or outcome. You can also be motivated away from a negative situation or outcome. What is your motivation to work from home? Are you looking to move toward your goals?

Ask yourself what the positive outcome would be if you were able to work from home. List as many ideas as possible.
How would your life look different?
What would the emotional benefits be?
How would you feel different?

Or are you attempting to move away from negative circumstances?

Once you have a solid feel-good list you can go ahead and ask what negative situations would you avoid?
What would this allow you to do that you can’t today?
Would this reduce stress or other undesirable emotions?
Where in your life could you be more abundant? How would achieving this goal help you illuminate that lack?

The answers either toward or away all combine to reinforce and increase your motivation. The truth is we all have a few of each side positive and negative. The more you have and the intensity of the emotion around them will determine your level of passion and determination to succeed.

Listing all the benefits of owning your own home based business or working from home in any capacity should get you extremely excited. I know it does for me. You may want to develop your own questions as well. The more you explore the more fun these exercises become. Here are a few more questions to keep you going. Ask yourself,

Would I enjoy more power, achievement or affiliation by reaching this goal?

Would I prefer to own my own business as opposed to what I am doing today?

How would this impact my sense of confidence and feelings of worth?

Is this doable? Why or why not?

What are the potential external tangible rewards I would receive if I were to work from home?

What are my goals in life and will this help me achieve them?

Is this aligned with my inner self? Would I feel more or less aligned?

How would running a successful business improve my outlook and experience of life?

Would this help me control undesirable circumstances?

After understanding MLM fully does it agree with my beliefs?

Will this help fulfill needs of existence, relatedness and growth?

How would this help me to escape uncomfortable realities in my current situation?

Do I expect success?

How would I feel better and how could I use this to support my values?

Is the investment needed worth the reward?

How would this increase my level of freedom? How is my current level of freedom restricted?

Another useful exercise is to envision yourself with your goal already achieved. Mentally travel to the future of your choice and experience the feelings that you will feel when you finally reach that goal. Envision celebrating your success with a loved one over dinner. If a smile doesn’t literally cross your face you haven’t done this exercise right.

Is your goal to work from home or is it to own your own business?

There is a significant difference in these two objectives. There are enormous benefits when you work from home online and there are many options out there for you including eBay, blogging, writing, web-development etc…

However if your motivation is to have complete control over your financial future and all the other freedoms associated with owning your own business then you must also be prepared for the responsibility that will come along with that.

Understanding your motivation and developing a clear vision of exactly what you are looking to accomplish will support you over the many hours you invest in building you business. Take the time to really understand your motivation, envision the rewards and every minute spent on your MLM business will be its own reward!

The more you focus on your goals and the higher your motivation the more determination you will have to succeed. While researching work from home ideas keep your goals in mind and once you have found your motivation, decide to succeed.
