Network Marketing Success: Train & Coach Your Down-line
As an independent business owner your Network Marketing success will be greatly influenced by your ability as a leader. To truly capitalize on the financial potential of MLM you will need to find a way of helping your down-line succeed. I have found there are three primary philosophies to accomplishing this goal.
- The Traditional Approach: Teach your down-line to pitch, pitch, pitch… Pitch everyone within earshot. Friends, family, co-workers, contacts etc… This is in my opinion a very poor strategy and will not even spend time here elaborating on why.
- The Pre-Packaged Approach: The latest thing in MLM is to sell “systems” to the struggling MLM’er. The idea is to create an easy pre-packaged program and sell it to your down-line or others. The MLM’er buys it in the hope that it will be the answer to their problems. What they find is they are actually being recruited to sell the package to others. My problem with this is,
- They give you all the tools you need to sell their programs but do not really help you build your down-line.
- Your pre-formed websites & lead capture pages are given to everyone and just like your generic MLM website you remain invisible on the web.
- You end up in the exact same position as you started. With another product you are trying to sell via PPC campaigns that cost more than the return on your investment.
- The-MLM-Ninja Approach: Teach a man to fish. Teach your down-line to establish themselves as true business owners and give them the strategy to do the same. How do you accomplish this? Via your website.
- Convert traffic into paying customers
- Convert traffic into leads
- Automate the recruiting process from prospecting to registration.
- Train your down-line without you having to be there.
Once you have built these various processes into your website the business virtually runs itself. Your down-line can use the tools you have developed to duplicate your results. Your ability to expand grows exponentially over time. As you develop more and more automated processes and your down-line uses your approaches they see the same success you have. Your Network Marketing success is contingent on your ability to do this. Yes at first you will need to be heavily involved but the more you document the easier it becomes.
Instead of prospecting, recruiting and teaching which is a ton of work your job becomes a consultant to your down-line. You evaluate their performance and offer suggestions as to where they can improve. Making suggestions to revisit a certain training lesson, providing encouragement as to what they have done well and suggesting ways to do better. Your down-line should not be dependent on you personally. Instead you have given them the keys to the kingdom. You support them to attain their goals. If you have the right people in your down-line this is easy. Their goals are just like yours. As you are they are looking for Network Marketing success so they are willing to do what it takes.
Coaching Tips for Network Marketing Success: - Always remain positive and begin by building rapport.
- As questions: Discover what your down-line representative is looking for coaching on.
- Always begin with what your down-line representative is doing right. At least half of the conversation should be focused on positively reinforcing what they should keep doing. Encourage!
- Keep focused on positive reinforcement until your down-line representative asks for guidance or reveals a challenge they want help with.
- Transition to providing feedback in the spirit of, “this is how to get even better.” Focus on opportunities for improvement not what you are doing wrong.
- Keep a collaborative approach and you are only making suggestions that your down-line representative is asking for.
- Try not to just tell what to do but show how to do it. Saying you need to develop better headlines is of no use. Suggesting you hook your audience with a question as a headline is more constructive and can be acted upon.
- Always end a call or e-mail coaching session with a positive. You want the individual to walk away motivated and ready to act!
Support your down-line’s success by serving as a consultant. Build your prospecting website as an education tool, provide affiliate educational tools or link to free educational websites such as this one which is perfectly natural for a down-line distributor to do and focus your time on coaching. Coaching takes far less time then training does and therefore allows you to grow your down-line much larger than you would normally be able to while still providing the support they will need to achieve the level of Network Marketing success you have.
