How do you expect to see success in your MLM coaching efforts if all you focus on is negative? Avoid this pitfall when coaching your down-line or you will be sabotaging your efforts. As a coach it is natural to put your critical hat on and look for everything your client is doing wrong. You want to provide feedback to help them succeed. However an MLM Leader knows the best way to help them succeed is to uncover anything and everything they are doing right.
There is nothing more un-motivating than having someone point out to you everything you are doing wrong. My biggest issue with my Sponsor when I first got into MLM is he already knew what HE wanted me to do before we ever spoke. He gave lip service to wanting to know my background and goals but then went right into trying to get me to make a list of my friends and family. I knew that approach was not right for me right from the start and that this sponsor was not going to be able to help me. I haven’t spoken to him since.
So what should your primary objective be? The overall feel of the entire conversation should be positive, energizing and inspiring. Both parties should feel excited and hopeful, ready to act and focused. You have two entrepreneurs coming together to discuss their passions. Both focused on success, excited at what MLM can do for them and involved in the same opportunity. Why wouldn’t this be a positive and uplifting conversation for them both?
INSPIRE FOR MLM COACHING SUCCESS
- Build Rapport: Establishing trust is about establishing positive relationships. To do this in your MLM coaching is simple. Genuinely demonstrate interest in your client and your devotion to helping them achieve MLM success.
- Positively Reinforce: Motivate your client to continue doing and do more of whatever it is they are doing right. Identify what they are good at and let them know that you admire their abilities in this area. Don’t be afraid to be a student and leverage their strengths as well.
- Share Vision & Values: Infuse your conversation with your vision and values and help your client form their own in the process. It is long-term vision and the underlying objective of living their values more fully that will keep them motivated over time.
- Instill Confidence: Fear is the enemy of action. No matter what obstacle or what challenge needs to be overcome you absolutely must project confidence in your clients ability to succeed. Anyone with determination and perseverance can succeed and it is your job to stoke this fire. Be confident in your ability as a leader and instill this confidence in your client and both of you will see MLM coaching success.
- Inspire Through Positivity: Genius is inspiring but positivity is even better. Having a super “evil” master plan is exciting and a necessary component of success. However you need the energy to act and positive uplifting conversation inspires action.
A productive coaching session is one in which your client walks away feeling better than they did at the start. That’s it. That is enough to call it a successful conversation. Even if work was never discussed you can feel good that you have done your client a service. Leaders do not get caught up in details and minutia. They lead through vision and inspiration. People want to follow them because they make them feel good. They make us become better than we already are.Direct the MLM coaching conversation around success versus simply discussing obstacles and challenges solely. Ask your client what they have accomplished. Reinforce anything they have done well and show them how far they have come.
Talk about their dreams and get them to articulate their goals. Get them to think about the future, the benefits they will have once they achieve their goals. Celebrate with them every step of the way. Show them how to feel good about every step towards their goals.
Often we hold off celebrating until everything is done. Constantly waiting for the graduation ceremony before allowing ourselves to party is a very hard life if you ask me. Celebrating after every test, every quiz, and every correctly answered question sounds much more fun to me. Keeping a positive and open mind fosters creativity, improves productivity and quality of life.
This is not to say that you do not want to provide feedback to your client. By balancing your roles as Leader and Coach you will be able to provide coaching on how to improve in a positive light.
Notice I did not say to coach on what to do differently, or what was wrong. Coaching is about identifying opportunities to improve or what can be done even better. In this way you gently support the growth of an individual without dampening their spirits.
A few tips on how to provide MLM coaching feedback for Success,
- If you want to address a subject you are looking to provide feedback on ask, “How is topic X going?” Or “How are you doing with topic X?” This leaves the door open for them to ask for assistance or if they are not ready they can close it by saying fine.
- Instead of saying, “This is what you could do differently” say, “I found that this works for me. It might work for you as well.”
- Uncover what your client is looking for help in with questions like, “Is there anything I can help you with?” or “Are you facing any major challenges with moving forward?”
- Identify if your client has a clear plan with, “what are your next steps?” or “so what is the agenda for next week?”
- Build upon strengths with, “I think you did a good job with that, the only way I could see you could improve is by…”
- “You might want to add…” versus “Do it this way.”
Gentle guidance and direction is what your client is looking for when coming to you for support. Couple this with a motivational energizing emotional experience and they will be poised for MLM success. The benefits will be far greater than any tips or feedback you could have provided. MLM coaching done in this manner becomes a mutually beneficial experience and the stress and stigma of coaching fall away and all you are left with is a productive and friendly conversation.
